Room Three: Love & Developing Social Skills

In the spirit of Valentine's Day we celebrated love and friendship. The students participated in several group activities while learning about how to be a good friend and follow polite expectations. Room 3 was encouraged to get outside and take breaks from the classroom setting and work on their social skills. Students were able to have dialogue with their friends and engage in some great wintertime fun outside. Thanks to our energetic and spirited friends, we were able to see a great deal of fun take place.

We focused this February on being polite. Students focused on keeping their emotions in check so that they can respond in a polite manner while being effective and appropriate. Staff has been handing out stickers and encouragement to all the students who have shown great attitudes and actions around their friends for the month of February.  In addition we will be ongoing with our yearlong theme of kindness and the different ways that students can show kindness to their peers.  Please be on the lookout for our hearts that the children worked very hard on since they will be going home soon and make sure you stop by our classroom to check out the pictures of your children being great friends to each other.

Welcome to Room Four!

Welcome To Room 4!

We are so excited to begin a new school year. We have so many new face and we love to work with our new students to expose them to different areas of the classroom and new routines. We are glad that many of our students are adjusting to each other and to the rules of the school. We know by the end of the school year they will be "big kids" capable of sitting for lessons, sharing with their friends and writing their name. Stay tuned for an action pack year here in room 4.

Summer Program

Jefferson Park began its summer program on July 1st. We will be providing quality childcare through the summer months. We are implementing a light summer curriculum and plenty of fun and activities for the children. We are proud to start "Fun Fridays" at our center. Each week we bring in area talent to entertain and educate our children. Additionally, we have "Wet Wednesdays" where the children get wet and enjoy the sun. The program has been doing very well. We are almost at full enrollment and the families and children seem to be enjoying their time at the center.

Pottery Fun

Students in classroom two created their very own works of art using molding clay. Each student used plastic sculpting tools and small pizza rollers to create their very own masterpieces. Playing and engaging in art is very fun, the students were also learning about different textures and the process clay goes through in the heat. Exposing children to different textures and giving them the ability to use their hands is very crucial in their early development. We have seen tremendous strides in the children's dexterity growth from the beginning of the year to the end in te year.

What has been your experience showing young children new methods of art? Do you think texture learning is important is a child's growth? Share your thoughts and comments.
